SEATTLE—  Investigators believe the “Preppy Bank Perp’ aka the ‘Harry Potter Bandit’ has been caught. Caleb Andrew Dierlam, 20, will appear in federal court in Seattle at 2:00 pm today.

At this time, I have no information that he was identified by any WMW viewer tips to Crime Stoppers but will update you if that changes. Last Wednesday, a joint team of federal and local law enforcement personnel arrested Dierlam at his residence in Mill Creek. He was booked in Snohomish County jail on probable cause for the July 25, 2016 robbery of Umpqua Bank on Alderwood Mall Parkway in Lynnwood, Washington.

This morning, FBI agents transferred Dierlam to federal custody. At his appearance today, he will face three counts of bank robbery, charged by complaint.
Investigators believe Dierlam is responsible for at least six bank robberies in Washington State and Oregon.

The FBI and the Seattle Safe Streets Task Force joined the Everett, Lakewood, Lynnwood and Mount Vernon police departments in investigating the bandit’s string of robberies. In addition to the Lynnwood robbery, the following are attributed to the bandit:
· Thursday, August 25, 2016 – Union Bank on Evergreen Way, in Everett, WA
· Friday, September 9, 2016 – Key Bank on College Way, in Mount Vernon, WA
· Tuesday, October 11, 2016 – Key Bank on Gravelly Lake Drive SW, in Lakewood, WA
· Tuesday, November 8, 2016 – Key Bank on SE Burnside Road, in Gresham, OR
· Tuesday, November 8, 2016 – US Bank on SW Tualatin Valley Highway, in Beaverton, OR

FUGITIVE UPDATE October 21, 2016 —
Lakewood Police say the ‘Preppy Bank Perp’ struck again last week, this time disguising himself by dyeing his hair gray and wearing fake chin hair.

Watch the video below that shows he was in no rush to rob the place, waiting patiently for a teller. Once it’s his turn with the teller he slips her a demand note. She reads it and wastes no time taking money out of the till and handing it to him in an envelope. He grabs his demand note back and walks off with his hands in his pockets — quite the cool customer for the whole heist.

“When you watch him come in on the surveillance video he’s at ease, he appears to be calm, he’s not fidgeting too much. Waits in line in the bank, you know, walks up to the teller kind of slowly and, I think, in our robbery, the teller actually noted that he was very polite. He’s calm. He’s not yelling at her, cussing at her, or trying to get her to hurry up and kinda walks calmly out of the bank,” says Lakewood Police Lt. Chris Lawler. “We’re always worried about these escalating. Right now he presented a note, no weapon was seen in our robbery and I don’t believe a weapon was seen in any of the others, but we’re always worried that will escalate, that something will happen in the bank that will make him produce a weapon, or he’ll bring one next time and that sort of thing, but I think he knows the heat is on because it looks like he’s trying to disguise himself, but I think if you look close at the video, if you know this guy. you’ll recognize him from the photos.”

He’s also the suspect in bank robberies in Everett, Lynnwood and Mount Vernon.

FUGITIVE WANTED September 16, 2016 --
A guaranteed $1,000 reward for whoever calls Crime Stoppers with the name of this serial bank robbery suspect. Detectives think he's behind a heist in Everett last month and another hit a month before in Lynnwood.

Take one good look at him and it's easy to see why we're tagging him the ‘Preppy Bank Perp.’ "He's actually clean-cut, young,” says Everett Police Ofc. Aaron Snell. “He really doesn't do anything to attempt to hide himself. He's just pretty nonchalant and walks on in and makes his demands. We are looking to identify him. We think that with the footage we have, somebody out there know who he is."

And, he looks a lot like a robber who hit a Key Bank in Skagit County late last week who wore glasses but definitely matches the Snohomish County suspect.

"Detectives are working with other agencies in other departments to determine how many area banks he

may have robbed. We know that there's one in Lynnwood and one in Everett and possibly one in Mount Vernon," adds Ofc. Snell.

Detectives describe the Mount Vernon suspect as white, 20 to 25 years old, 6’0, slender, with short dark brown hair.

He wore the glasses, a brown and tan plaid button-down shirt, black zipper jacket and white and neon green tennis shoes.

If you recognize the ‘Preppy Bank Perp,’ who’s possibly the Mount Vernon robber, as well, call an anonymous tip into CRIME STOPPERS: 1-800-222-TIPS.

You must call the Crime Stoppers hotline with your tip to be eligible to receive a cash reward for information leading to a fugitive’s arrest.

Emily Isaacs. “He was living here in Washington state, so his supervision was transferred up her. He’s since absconded from supervision. UPDATE — 12/28/2016 Shawn Morgan posted $100,000 bail and was released from the Pierce County jail on Tuesday. He has an Omnibus court hearing set for 2/10 and his trial is scheduled to start on 3/9.

TACOMA — Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist has charged Shawn Morgan with Child Molestation First Degree.  The case stems from a 2012 investigation in which victim was a 5-6 year old girl.  The case was referred to the prosecutor’s office in 2012 for charging but the mother of the victim changed her phone number and could not be located at the time.

After Morgan’s arrest earlier this year,  his girlfriend agreed to give a statement regarding her knowledge of additional victims.  Kierra Hall told investigators Morgan wanted her to drug the child with heroin but she refused.  Hall claims he then took the girl into a spare bedroom where she could hear the child screaming and crying.

He currently has 3 open charged cases in Pierce County Superior Court:  2 counts Rape Child First Degree, 2 counts Child Molest First Degree; Unlawful Manufacturing of a Controlled Substance,  Unlawful Possession of Ammonia with Intent to Manufacture Methamphetamine, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and  47 counts Possession of Depictions of Minor Engaged in Sexually Explicit Conduct First Degree

UPDATE — October 12, 2016 — Shawn Morgan has been released from the Pierce County jail. His bail was reduced to $200,000.

UPDATE – August 29, 2016  — Shawn Morgan is being held on $1,000,000 bail in the Pierce County jail charged with 47 counts of possessing child porn. Court records show investigators found videos and photos on a CD, USB drive, several memory cards and a laptop during a search warrant of Morgan’s trailer that show  infants and young girls being sexually assaulted by adults.  The actual charge is RCW 9.68A.070 possession of depictions of minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct.  Morgan was arraigned on Aug. 22nd.  “Nothing is more important than protecting our children,” said Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist. “The defendant could spend the rest of his life in prison if convicted,” he added.

Morgan was featured last April on Washington’s Most Wanted after he was charged with two counts of Rape of a Child in the 1st degree and two counts of Child Molestation in the 1st degree last April. He surrendered four days later and then posted bond and was released.  Pierce County deputies say that between June of 2014 and September of 2015, Morgan and his then girlfriend, Kierra Hall, sexually assaulted a young child on numerous occasions inside a travel trailer in Parkland. Hall is in jail charged with 3 counts of rape of a child 1st degree and child molestation 1st degree. She is cooperating in the investigation according to court documents.

SKYWAY, Wash -- King County Sheriff’s detectives are asking for the public’s help to find two burglary suspects after they say one of them shot at a deputy in Skyway around 11 p.m. Tuesday.

"The homeowner wasn't home but had a good surveillance system and was actually watching the suspects break into the house on his phone,” said King County Sgt. Cindi West.

That homeowner called 911 as he watched the two suspects identified by investigators as Cobbe Rian Weston and Luther Dandre Jenkins burglarizing his house. Deputies responded and a chase ensued. At one point, detectives say one of the suspects turned and fired a shot from 15 feet away but missed.

“The deputy said in his report that he was shocked that he didn't get hit. He said he was standing 5 to 6 yards from our suspects when he pulled the trigger. He said he saw the muzzle flash, heard the shot, smelled the gunpowder and he couldn't believe that he wasn't hit,” said Sgt. West.

Both suspects escaped.

“These guys are bad guys. They both are on Department of Corrections supervision for the same types of burglaries and we want to get them off the streets,” said Sgt. West.

package-thief-in-up-main

UNIVERSITY PLACE — Pierce County detectives are hoping someone can identify a package thief who stole gifts off a porch in University Place on Christmas Eve.

“It’s not actually about the money but it’s the fact that other people’s presents that’s being stolen and it feels like your violated when that happens especially when I was in the house and had just gotten home,” said Jeff Westover.

He says the woman stole an iPod clock docking station, a pair of jeans for his son and some knee sleeves for his father-in-law who just had surgery.

Deputies say with more people shopping online using gift cards they got for Christmas, you can expect thefts like this to continue unless you are vigilant.

"Not only are thieves going to steal your packages but they are going to steal your mail year round. They'll steal packages year round. It's a gonna be a problem that's gonna be with us now so you either have to have them sent to an alternative secure location or have somebody there to get them when they arrive,” said Det. Ed Troyer.

If you know the suspect’s name, Crime Stoppers of Tacoma-Pierce County will pay you a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to her arrest. Call the hotline at 1-800-222-TIPS. All calls are anonymous.

ARLINGTON, Wash — Arlington Police, the Violent Offender Task Force and Snohomish County Sheriff’s deputies arrested accused prolific ID thief Kimberlee Lines last night. She is charged with Identity Theft 1st Degree, Identity Theft 2nd Degree and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia in Snohomish county and Identity Theft 1st Degree in King County.

She is being held in the Snohomish County jail. One of her alleged victims is Wendy Hays. She spent more than a year trying to clear her good name after Kirkland Police say Lines stole her identity “Things that you’ve worked for your whole life seems to like disappear because someone in a blink of an eye has taken your credit and invaded your world,” said Hays. When I told her of the arrest this morning, she was overjoyed. “This is amazing. Thank you!” she said.

Another alleged victim is Stanwood mom Renae Topham who is still dealing with the financial wreckage left behind after detectives in the Snohomish County Property Crimes Unit say Lines stole her identity and charged up her accounts at two stores. “It’s just weird because she has all of my information. She’s pretending to be me. She knows actually where I live and everything,” said Topham.

Lines is scheduled to make a first appearance in court Friday afternoon. Her’ boyfriend, 23-year-old Austin Faircloth, is still on the run and has several warrants for his arrest. If you know where he is, submit the information via the P3 Tips App to Crime Stoppers or call 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

STANWOOD, Wash. — A Stanwood mom is now dealing with the financial wreckage left behind after Snohomish County detectives say Kimberlee Lines stole her identity and charged up her accounts at two stores.

“It’s just weird because she has all of my information. She’s pretending to be me. She knows actually where I live and everything,” said Renae Topham.

Investigators in the Property Crimes Unit say Lines even opened up an account at Victoria’s Secret in the name of Topham’s daughter.

“She’s 4. She probably doesn’t have a lot of need for VS at this point but apparently she has their card,” said Topham.

It all started two years ago when burglars broke into her home and stole a laptop with personal information.

“They were able to get our social, my husband's social as well as my daughter’s, dates of birth, everything,” said Topham.

She isn’t the only victim, according to detectives.

“As soon that first phone call came, it flooded. All of a sudden I’ve got cards from people, credit cards and phone calls asking when I was going to make payment. It was a whirlwind,” said Wendy Hays of Kirkland.

Hays learned someone stole her identity. She spent more than a year trying to clear her good name.

“Things that you’ve worked for your whole life seem to, like, disappear because someone in a blink of an eye has taken your credit and invaded your world,” said Hays.

Police say it's all thanks to Lines.

“She’s been in the Skagit County and Snohomish County communities and she’s been going to Macy’s and TJ Maxx and using the victim’s identification and credit history,” said Snohomish County Property Crimes Unit Sgt. Jim Maples.

Police say she casually walks from store to store and racks up thousands of dollars in merchandise, all while pretending to be someone else and using their credit cards.

“She didn’t look like anybody special or different or tough. She just looked normal and that made me upset because she looked normal and people thought she was me,” said Hays.

Police say Lines admitted to being in an identity theft ring, with someone at a doctor or dental office feeding the crooks patients' personal information. Patients like Wendy Hays, who’s now buried in paperwork and bad credit.

“I had to cut off my credit. I had to lock it so now I can’t do anything freely without having to take extra steps to do something I should be able to do,” said Hays.

Every time Hays wants to buy something, it costs $10 to unlock and re-lock her credit. She says it’s a constant nuisance for her and it also adds up.

“We’d like to get her (Lines) in custody to account for the victims that we’re not aware of and hopefully, once in custody, we can stop the trend she has going,” said Sgt. Maples.

Detectives are asking for the public’s help to find Lines as well as her boyfriend, 23-year-old Austin Faircloth, who also has warrants for his arrest.

Topham says store clerks need to ask everyone for identification. Lines was able to charge $4,000 worth of clothes to accounts at Macy’s and Kohl’s just by entering Topham’s Social Security number.

"We've worked hard to get where we are and now somebody is just trying to steal that away from us without a whole lot of effort, really,” said Topham.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of either suspect. Call the hot line anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS.

FUGITIVE WANTED November 3, 2016 --
A Kirkland woman never lost her wallet or purse, but Snohomish County detectives say she’s now a victim of a massive identity theft ring targeting people from Skagit to Pierce counties.

Detectives want your help tracking down suspect 38-year-old Kimberlee Lines, who was first arrested in 2015.  Now, she has multiple warrants for fraud and ID theft along the I-5 corridor.

“No, it was not on my radar. I didn’t expect it to happen to me; other people, but not me,” said identity theft victim Wendy Hays, of Kirkland.

That’s until Hays got a phone call from an outdoors store in May 2015.

“As soon that first phone call came, it flooded. All of a sudden I’ve got cards from people, credit cards and phone calls asking when I was going to make payment. It was a whirlwind,” said Hays.

Wendy learned someone stole her identity.  She spent more than a year trying to clear her good name.

“Things that you’ve worked for your whole life seems to like disappear because someone in a blink of an eye has taken your credit and invaded your world,” said Hays.

Police say Lines admitted to being in an identity theft ring with someone at a doctor or dental office feeding the crooks patients' personal information.

“We’d like to get her (Lines) in custody to account for the victims that we’re not aware of and hopefully once in custody we can stop the trend she has going,” said Maples.

Hays says she tells everyone to get identity theft protection.  Not just an alert system, but a company that will help you clear your good name if this happens to you.

If you know Kimberlee Lines or believe you may have seen here, call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS.  If you have a tip that leads to her arrest, you could get up to a $1,000 reward.

Pierce County Sheriff’s Detective retires after distinguished career featured in books by Ann Rule

Pierce County Sheriff Paul Pastor presents retirement badge and credentials to Det. Sgt. Ben Benson

Pierce County Sheriff Paul Pastor presents retirement badge and credentials to Det. Sgt. Ben Benson

TACOMA — Det. Sgt. Ben Benson says he didn’t want any fanfare over his retirement after 32 years with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department but his friends, family and coworkers had other plans.  They honored him at a retirement dinner Thursday night at The Pine Room in Tacoma.  Pierce County Sheriff Paul Pastor presented Benson with his retirement badge and credentials.

Det. Sgt. Benson joined the department as a deputy in 1984. “The most fun I had hands down was working patrol on the graveyard shift in uniform in a marked patrol car where you’d go from having a cup of coffee sitting in a restaurant to just two minutes later being int he middle of mayhem,” he said.

It wasn’t long before he was working in a special proactive unit targeting problem criminals like serial bank robbers and burglars. "We had undercover cars and we got to grow our hair long and not shave everyday and go out there and try to blend in with the dirtbags and see what we could accomplish,” said Det. Sgt. Benson.  Det. Ed Troyer was his partner.  “I remember driving around in Firebirds and Trans Ams  and unmarked cars and catching thieves. We had a great time doing it and we both actually fit in too well sometimes,” he said.

Eventually, Benson worked his way up to homicide detective and recalls one of the most famous cases. It was the disappearance of  Joe Terricone in Puyallup in 1978.  It remained a mystery until 2007.  "A guy running a bulldozer had dug up some bones at this construction site,” said Det. Sgt. Benson.  They were found at the home of Terricone’s girlfriend at the time.  "We went from finding bones at a construction site to nine months later arresting a brother sister for a murder they committed 30 years ago. That was probably the most satisfying case of my career and then Ann Rule wrote a book about it,” said Det. Sgt. Benson.  He and Rule became good friends until her death.

There are cases he wishes he could have solved like the murder of 20-year-old Daniel Mosley on March 30, 2015. He was shot and killed while driving his car.  Still, he has no regrets about retiring and he shouldn’t. He has served the citizens of Pierce County for more than three decades even though his mom thinks he’s too young to retire. “I told him not too long ago that I expect him to come over and have coffee with me in the morning,” said Diane Benson.

As a child, his mom says her son always told the truth. It’s a good trait that served him well in law enforcement and one he will carry into retirement.  “32 years...it just seems like it's long enough,” said now  Ret. Det. Sgt. Ben Benson.

David Darby is a Level 3 sex offender — the worst of the worst and highest risk to re-offend.

Better not tell anybody.’ The very next day he attacked another girl, same age, at the same friend’s house. He sexually assaulted her. He’s on the run. He’s a predator. We need your help to find him now,” says Department of Corrections Ofc. Emily Isaacs.
