Tacoma Girl Scout refuses to let attempted robbery stop cookie sales; help ID suspects

TACOMA, Wash. — A milestone this week for a Tacoma Girl Scout who is one brave 10 year old.

Last weekend the two armed would-be robbers pictured above tried to steal cash from her cookie booth. While they’re still wanted, the courageous scout has set up shop in the exact same spot — and surrounded by community support.

“I want to thank everyone,” says 10-year-old Haliyah DuBois. “And I feel really thankful for everyone coming out here.”

Thursday was a milestone day for a Girl Scout who is one tough cookie. Haliyah is back in the spot where last weekend two young men tried to rob her cookie booth outside the Tacoma Fred Meyer on Pacific Avenue and 72nd.

“Why would they do such a thing?” asks Haliyah.

But it wasn’t just an attempted robbery, it appears these two were armed.

"When he was asking or demanding money, he raised his shirt and [her mom] thought she saw a handgun tucked in his waistband," says Loretta Cool with Tacoma Police.

Mom Jenny's quick thinking sent Haliyah inside. And using a loud voice alerted passersby to what was going on. The would-be robbers left empty-handed.

"When you get that feeling and the hair on the back of your neck stands up," says Cool, "you need to listen to it. Because it’s telling you something is not right."

Haliyah says she's proud of her mom: "I think she was brave to stand up to them."

And she's thankful for the support and love from fellow Girl Scouts and the community. Some Marine veterans even volunteering to hang out with them for protection since the suspects haven't been found.

And now with a sign proclaiming: You can't keep Girl Scouts down, she's back in business.

"I think I'm really confident," says this fifth-grader. "And I wanted to inspire all the other Girl Scouts."

She's back selling cookies to fund her troop to go camping and to make care packages for people who are living on the street.

"Got some respect for these girls," says customer Don Leske. "They must have been scared."

And customers were impressed with her for turning an experience so bitter into a story as sweet as the cookies she's selling.

"How cool is that? To stand up, stand tall. If you fall off the horse, get back in the saddle," says Leske.

And if you want to come out to support this brave Girl Scout, you can find them on Saturday afternoon from 4-6 p.m. at the Bass Pro Shop in Tacoma.

Detectives think the two suspects are white and in their late teens or early 20's

If you recognize them, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477), or use the P3 Tips App to submit your information.

It's anonymous -- you never have to give your name -- and you'll get a cash reward up to $1,000 if your tip leads to an arrest and charges in this case.

Daniel White: Wanted for robbery, assault, kidnapping in Pierce County

WANTED IN PIERCE COUNTY —
Pierce County Sheriff’s detectives need your help hunting down ‘armed and dangerous’ carjacking suspect, Daniel ‘Danny’ White.

A felony warrant has been issued for White’s arrest for:

  • Robbery in the 1st degree
  • Assault in the 2nd degree
  • Kidnapping in the 1st degree

On the morning of Tuesday, February 27th, deputies responded to a 911 call from a man saying he’d been carjacked at gunpoint by two men — and his girlfriend was still inside the stolen vehicle.

Detectives say the victim waved down the arriving deputies in the 26300 block of 86th Ave. E. in the Graham area. He was breathing heavily and appeared to be very frightened. Deputies say the victim told them he’d been hanging out in his green Honda Accord, with his girlfriend and two men who he knew. He said he was driving northbound on 86th Ave. when one of the men told him to turn down a dirt road at 262nd St. E. and then to stop the car. The victim said when he stopped the car, the two males exited the vehicle, then both of the men displayed handguns and pointed them at him. The victim said one of the suspects ordered him out of the car and said, ‘If you call the cops, we’re gonna kill your whole family’.  The victim said as he exited the vehicle, one of the men pointed a gun at his head. The victim said during the incident his girlfriend was still in the vehicle and was also threatened at gunpoint. He said the suspects re-entered his car and drove away with his crying girlfriend still in the backseat.

He was able to provide the deputies with physical descriptions of the two suspects, saying he knew one of them only as ‘Danny’ — later identified as wanted suspect, Daniel White.

The victim told deputies his vehicle had tracking software that allowed his mom to access his car’s location. His mom activated the software and provided updates to South Sound 911 dispatchers, who were then able to direct deputies to the approximate location of the vehicle.

At 6:23am, deputies located the stolen green Honda Accord in the parking lot of the Walgreens store located in the 17600 block of Meridian Ave. E. in South Hill. The vehicle was unoccupied. A deputy drove behind the Walgreens and spotted a man and woman matching the description of one of the suspects and the kidnapping victim. Detectives say the suspect was then taken into custody at gunpoint. “Luckily we were able to find the car, fairly quickly, in a shopping complex and get her recovered, she’s ok, but we still have one of the suspects outstanding and we’re looking for Washington’s Most Wanted viewers to help us get him located,” said Pierce County Det. Ed Troyer.

Deputies say the suspect told them he’d been in the Honda and provided varied and vague answers as to what happened. He said after they fled in the stolen car, they saw the police activity and ditched the car in front of the Walgreens.  He said ‘Danny’ fled the parking lot in a truck.

Detectives say the suspect was found in possession of a key to the Honda Accord as well as a backpack which contained:

  • .38 caliber bullets
  • A box full of .45 caliber bullets
  • An unloaded gun magazine
  • A ballistic vest

Then, deputies say in exchange for a cigarette, the suspect showed them were he dumped a fully-loaded snub-nosed revolver in the bushes next to the Walgreens store.

Detectives say the female victim told deputies the suspects had pointed guns at her boyfriend. She tried to jump out of the vehicle, but one of the suspects slammed the door on her and pointed a gun at her, then the suspect named ‘Danny’ drove off with her in the backseat.

Daniel ‘Danny’ White is 23 years old, 6’2″ and weighs 230 pounds. At the time of the carjacking, deputies say he had a thin mustache like the one in his mugshot above.

If you know where he’s hiding, use the P3 Tips App to submit your information to Crime Stoppers, or call the hotline at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).

It’s anonymous and you’ll get up to a $1,000 cash reward if your tip helps lead to his arrest.

Billy D. Williams: Accused killer one of Western District of Washington Fugitive Task Force Top Ten most wanted

WANTED IN KING COUNTY —

The Western District of Washington Fugitive Task Force is asking for the public’s help to find 30-year-old Billy D. Williams. He is accused shooting and killing Seattle resident James Little in White Center on May 7.

King County Sheriff’s Sgt. Cindi West said Little was attending a birthday party at a bar in the 9800 block of 16th Avenue SW in White Center on May 7 when a group of women got into a fight, which spilled outside. The women eventually separated and Little approached a group of people across the street when Williams, who as in the group, pulled a gun and shot Little in the head, killing him, West said.

Detectives have not released a motive for the shooting but said Williams has ties to Albany, Ore., and Seattle.

“Normally, when someone is on the run, it doesn’t stop with the crime they just committed. Normally, they don’t have a job, they may not have employment so they have to provide for themselves so they’re committing other crimes while they’re on the run, so getting these guys off the street, it’s imperative that we continue to keep the community safe,” said Acting U.S. Marshal Jacob Green. “He has to go to court. He has to face justice and that’s why he is on our top ten list.”

Billy D. Williams is 30 years old, 5’8″, with a medium build.

If anyone has information regarding the whereabouts of Williams, the sheriff’s office asks that you call 911 or you can remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 by calling Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.

Help ID credit card crook accused in nearly $8,000 shopping spree

WANTED IN LACEY, OLYMPIA and TUMWATER —
A Walgreens, two Targets, Best Buy and a beauty store — all stops on this woman’s big day out in Thurston County.

The problem is — her nearly $8,000 shopping spree was all charged on credit cards detectives in Tumwater, Olympia and Lacey say she stole from an 84 year old woman.

That victim’s family says it’s been devastating for them to deal with all the financial damage done. They’re looking for some good news now – hoping someone knows this accused credit card crook’s name.

“An elderly female had her wallet stolen and in her wallet was credit cards and personal ID’s and things of that nature,” said Lacey Police Det. Miguel Stansberry. “Those credit cards were used at several businesses around the Lacey and Olympia area. In the video she’s actually completing transactions using this victim’s credit cards. At Best Buy she purchased a laptop and she’s generally buying Visa and Mastercard gift cards, because they’re easier to complete the transactions, they don’t have to worry about going back and making returns and things of that nature. They can get the gift cards and spend them wherever they want, without being detected. We obviously want to get this woman bad, because she’s causing these losses to this elderly female and who knows how many other victims there are out there, but we’ve got to get her, before she creates another victim.”

When she's caught her breathe may be minty fresh from all that toothpaste she bought along with gift cards at the Walgreens in Tumwater, as one stop on her January 25th shopping spree.

Detectives say she's white and heavy set. She wore a black under armor hat, a gray nike hoodie, black yoga pants and grey shoes.

Let's just justice for that 84 year old woman and stop the suspect from going on anymore crime sprees.

If you know her name, or think you know anything at all that can help get her identified, use the P3 Tips App to submit your information to Crime Stoppers, or call the hotline anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).

WANTED IN SEATTLE —

Seattle Police have a lead they hope will help identify three suspects accused of robbing, beating and shooting a 73 year old woman inside her south Seattle.

Detectives say surveillance video shows the three suspects dumped their red Kia and were picked up in the hybrid silver 2015 to 2018 Toyota Corolla you see above.

“One of the suspects gets out, approaches the vehicle, gets in the front seat. A little bit of time delay, second one from the red car gets out, gets in the back seat. More delay and then the third one exits. He looks back at the red car as like, ‘Am I leaving something?’ And, he goes around to the driver`s side and gets in the back seat. We need to know if you were the driver or you know who the driver is, it`s really imperative to give us a call,” said Ret. Det. Myrle Carner with Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound.

WANTED IN LACEY and TUMWATER —
Detectives say they’ve identified the ‘Baby Face Bandit’ who hit on March 9th at the Key Bank in Tumwater and on the 12th at the Timberland Bank in Lacey.

They are asking for the public’s help to find 24 year old Gavin River.

“It is very surprising when we viewed the video and realized how young he was. Normally, it’s older persons,” said Lacey Police Det. Heather Stetler. “He has implied that there has been a weapon present and therefore the tellers have provided money to him. He has robbed two banks within a course of three days and we don’t want that to happen again, because it appears he’s running out of money and therefore hits another bank.”

Gavin River is 6’1” and weighs 180 pounds.

He has short hair now, not long hair like he has in his 2011 driver's license photo.

Detectives think he could be driving a lowered, black early 2000's Volkswagen GTI, like the one below, that's tricked-out with tinted windows and nice rims.

If you know where Gavin River is, use the P3 Tips App to get your information to detectives, or call the hot line at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).

Armed ATM robber: Help ID violent cash machine crook

WANTED IN SEATTLE —

Seattle Police need to identify a violent, armed cash machine crook who hit March 2nd outside a bank in Seattle’s First Hill neighborhood.

“It’s 5:40 in the morning. It’s dark out. It’s raining,” said Ret. Det. Myrle Carner with Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound. “He goes in a covered area where the ATM was located. You’ll see him actually using his card to get money and all of a sudden you’ll see on the video where the suspect appears. You get a pretty good look at his face. He’s got a hoodie and something around his face, but you can pretty well see his facial features. All of a sudden he puts his hand in the right-side of his pocket and pulls out a gun, transfers it over to his left hand. Now you’re going to watch him take that gun and he puts his finger in the trigger guard and pokes the victim. What you don’t see at this point, off-camera, the suspect takes his right fist and hits the victim in the left cheek, twice, knocking him back. You’ll see one shot where the victim’s holding his face, nose and so forth. Didn’t require a lot of medical attention, but we’re very fortunate that he didn’t get shot. This guy’s probably doing it on a regular basis. If you watch the video, he doesn’t take off running like a lot of new guys do. He doesn’t jump in a car. He just nonchalantly walks out of the covered area and walks out of sight, which tells me he’s probably done this before. We get a really good look at his face and even though a lot of it’s covered, you know who this guy is and that’s who we need to talk to. Remember, it’s anonymous, so if you know this guy, or you have an association, or somebody’s talking about these things, please let us know. We don’t want anybody to get hurt by the suspect.”

Detectives think he's white, 5’6”, with a medium build and moustache, possibly a goatee.

If you recognize this guy, or think you know anything that can help identify him, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477), or use the P3 Tips App to submit your information.

It's always anonymous -- you never have to give your name -- and you'll get a cash reward of up to $1,000 if your tip leads to his arrest.

SEATAC SHOOTER SKETCH
WANTED IN SEATAC — March 20, 2018
King County Sheriff’s Detectives are asking for the public’s help to solve the murder of Timothy Milligan.  He answered the door at the Firs Mobile Home Park at 20440 International Boulevard in SeaTac in October of 2015 and was shot in the face.  At the time, he lost his eye but Milligan passed away from his injuries on February 14, 2018.

Detectives have released a sketch of the gunman and are hoping someone recognizes him. “If you look at this case, we have two robberies that are probably related,” says King County Sgt. Cindi West. “In the first one they were armed and in the second one not only were they armed, but they shot our victim in the head who’s now fighting for his life in Harborview and we’re hoping that somebody will recognize this guy in the sketch, so that we can help solve this crimes. Pay really close attention to his face, not the hair, not the hat, not the glasses, it’s most likely a disguise, but look at his face really clearly and hopefully someone will recognize him.”

Gated community can’t keep car thieves, prowlers out; police seek ID of suspects

PUYALLUP, Wash. -- People in one Pierce County apartment complex are on guard after more than 20 car prowls within the last month.

The gates at Canyon Park Apartments in Puyallup seem like they’d keep burglars out, but Paula -- who did not want to give out her last name -- has lived here for five years and says they don’t work very well.

"Our car got stolen in April. When the weather gets nicer, they seem to come out more,” Paula said of the burglaries and car prowls she notices this time of year.

She says she’s seen her fair share of break-ins; just two months ago her apartment lock was tampered with and last weekend her neighbor’s car was broken into.

“His window was broken, they had a lot of stuff in there,” said Paula. “There was a lady who left her wallet one night and they stole that."

Pierce County sheriff's Detective Ed Troyer says in less than a month, there’s been 21 car prowls here.

"There are a lot of nice cars, I didn’t realize it was that much,” said Paula.

Police say on February 28 a woman’s car was ransacked and her credit cards stolen.

Surveillance video shows one suspect using that stolen credit card at McLendon’s hardware near the apartment complex to buy bolt cutters and other items. That stolen credit card then gets swiped at Jack in the Box up the street and a couple hours after that a second suspect tried to use the same credit card at McLendon’s again -- to buy gloves and propane cans -- but that time the card gets denied.

Missing Attachment Missing Attachment Missing Attachment Missing Attachment

“A pair of bolt cutters, what are those used for, doing more break-ins. Black gloves, burglars love gloves and propane, which leaves us to believe this may be someone who is transient living in a tent ‘cause they use those cans for cooking, heat and other things,” said Troyer.

Paula says that makes sense. She sees a lot of homeless people around the apartment complex.

"I leave at 5:30 in the morning and it’s pretty creepy to go to work,” said Paula.

The apartment complex has gates around all the main entrances, but Paula pointed out un-fenced areas where people can easily walk in and out of the complex.
"What they need to do is fence all the way around,” said Paula.

But until then, she says, she’s staying put and making sure not to leave anything in her car.

Since her car was stolen, she has purchased a new one with an alarm system and parks her other car in a garage. Paula says she does see a police officer come through the complex at least once a day and says the apartment complex has required visitors to get passes at the main offices.

Everett police warn of pickpocket ring stealing wallets, purses; reward for ID of suspects

EVERETT, Wash. -- Everett Police are warning everyone to watch out for a team of pickpockets stealing wallets and purses from victims all over Western Washington.

"What they are doing is interrupting or bumping our victims at local restaurants and crowded areas here in the city and their credit cards are being taken, their wallets and purses are being taken and what happens is there is an immediate turnaround and a lot of expensive items are being purchased with their credit cards," said Everett police officer Aaron Snell.

It happened around noon March 7th at Panera Bread on SE Everett to Leslie Hynes.

"We were at the kiosks and it was really crowded and as I was moving away from the kiosk that I had used, somebody kind of bumped past me to get to that kiosk and after I thought about it, I thought that was kind of unusual because the kiosk closest to the door had been vacated," said Hynes.

Within minutes, the crooks used her stolen cards to purchase $14,000 worth of laptops and other items at Best Buy and Bed, Bath and Beyond. Video shows six suspects.

“We do not believe these crimes are isolated incidences. Rather, criminals are making coordinated efforts to victimize unsuspecting people throughout the Puget Sound,” says Financial Crimes Sergeant Matt Mekelburg. “Be aware of your surroundings and take a few basic steps to protect your financial security.”

That means zipping up your purse.

At 2 p.m. on March 7th, another victim was at Trader Joe’s on SE Everett Mall Way. A female approached her and started asking questions. After the conversation, the victim realized her wallet was gone and several credit cards were immediately used at Target. The suspect purchased over $3,200 in gift cards and left in a white SUV.

“The pattern of crime occurring in Snohomish County is tied to a multi-state series of thefts committed by an extremely large and organized group of individuals,” says Everett Detective Jamie French. “These criminals are victimizing people from the Pacific Northwest to New York City and down to Florida.”

French is working with multiple agencies throughout the United States and advises: “The crimes have been linked due to locations of occurrence, particularly Panera Bread and Trader Joes, and the retail locations where victims’ credit cards were used.”

As detectives work these cases, similar crimes around the region have been connected:
• March 14th between 1-4pm: Wallet stolen at Panera Bread (Bellevue Way - Bellevue, WA) to purchase Apple, Microsoft,
and Target merchandise.
• February 19th at about 2 pm: Wallet stolen at Panera Bread (Bellevue Way - Bellevue, WA) and attempted to purchase an
Apple product.
• February 2nd at about 1:15 pm: Wallet stolen at Trader Joe’s (SE Everett Mall Way - Everett, WA) to purchase Best Buy,
Apple, and Microsoft merchandise.
• January 3rd between 2:30-2:50: Wallet stolen at Panera Bread (Factoria, WA) with $4,000 of merchandise bought at Best
Buy.
• December 9th: Suspects steal a wallet at Panera Bread (Lynnwood, WA) and purchase gift cards at nearby Safeway.
• December 9th: Credit cards stolen at Panera Bread (Woodinville, WA) used to purchase merchandise at Nordstrom’s
(Lynnwood, WA).
• December 9th: Purse stolen at Maggiano’s Restaurant (Bellevue, WA) with credit cards used to purchase gifts cards at
nearby Safeway.

"We believe there are currently more than 50 people involved. Every day our detectives are finding out there are more suspects so we want to start making arrests. We want them to know they are not welcome here in Everett and they're not welcome anywhere else," said Snell.

Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to call the Everett Police Department TIP LINE at (425) 257-8450 or Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound at 1-800-222-TIPS or use the P3 Tips App on your phone. It is anonymous and there is a cash reward of up to $1,000 for any information that leads to an arrest in the case.

CAPTURED –– March 22, 2018

Dustin Simpson was arrested by Lewis County Sheriff’s deputies in Centralia.

WANTED IN LEWIS COUNTY —
Convicted high-risk child rapist, Dustin Simpson, is failing to register as a sex offender in Lewis County — but detectives think he could be hiding in Kennewick or another part of the Tri-Cities now.

“Mr. Simpson is a Level III offender, which is the most serious level of sex offenders and that has to do with his conviction in 2004. He was 23 at the time. The female that was involved was 15 and he supplied that 15 year old with drugs and alcohol as part of his crime, said Lewis County Dep. Chief Dusty Breen. “We now have an individual that failed to follow the court-ordered treatment, became a registered sex offender and has now failed to follow the provisions set forward for his reporting, which causes us great concern.”

Dustin Simpson is 36 years old, 5’9”, weighs 230 pounds and has “Red Neck” tattooed on his arm.

Again, he could be hiding on either side of the state.

If you know where he is, use the P3 Tips App to submit your information to Crime Stoppers, or call the hotline at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).
